Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland In 2018 is returning with the ultimate Christmas experience for the residents of Cardiff and the City’s winter visitors.

The Winter Wonderland in Cardiff will be open to the public from the 15th of November 2018 until the 6th of January 2019,

At the Cardiff Winter Wonderland you will be able to join them for ice skating, fun fair attractions, food, drink and plenty of Christmas cheer!  

Cardiff Winter Wonderland Attractions:

Admiral Ice Rink 

The Admiral Ice Rink will run from Thursday 15th of November until Sunday 6th of January 2019.

This year Admiral Ice Rink at the Winter Wonderland will see the return of the clear span roof above the rink, to keep skaters dry, and allow sparkling views of City Hall and the beautiful Cardiff night sky.

Sur La Piste

Sayers Amusements are proud to present the ‘Sur La Piste’ bar, which is brand new for 2018.

The Sur LA Piste bar at the Winter Wonderland will have two floors for you to enjoy featuring all of the cosiness of a traditional ski-lodge.

The ‘Sur La Piste’ is sure to bring the ultimate Après Ski vibe of the French Alps into the Cardiff city centre for all to enjoy this winter. There will be a variety of beverages available and visitors can expect a refreshed place to socialise, relax, and enjoy the views of Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland and the City. 

The brand new food area will serve a range of mouth-watering festive favourites including grilled sausage, burgers, sweet and savoury crepes, and a variety of traditional sweet treats.

Fun Fair

The Fun Fair will also be present at the Winter Wonderland for all of the thrill seekers to enjoy.

Winter Wonderland Winter Opening Times and Schedule…

The Winter Wonderland will be open Weekdays from 15th of November to the 21st of December 2018 from 12pm – 10pm.

The Winter Wonderland will be open Weekdays from 22nd of December 2018 to the 6th of January 2019 from 11am – 10pm.

The Winter Wonderland Weekend opening times will be:

Saturday 10am – 10pm

Sunday 10am – 10pm

Some FAQ’s about the Ice Rink at Cardiff Winter Wonderland

What Size Skates Are Available?

All of the skates are single blade skates, and they carry sizes from J8 for children up to and including size 14 for adults.

Typically, a skate boot is one size larger that your shoe size.  The friendly skate staff will happily exchange your skates at any time, to ensure that you have a pair of skates that you are comfortable with.  They strongly recommend that all skaters wear thick boot socks. They have limited stock of all sizes. If they cannot supply you with your correct skate size, they shall accommodate you on the next skate session.

Can you Change your Booking?

Bookings can be amended by calling 0333 666 3366 – There is a £1 fee to amend any booking. 

What about the Weather?

Cardiff Winter Wonderland is a partially covered event site.  The ice rink, spectator area and skate exchange area are completely undercover, and operate in all weather conditions.  The fun fair and concession area of the Winter Wonderland is not undercover. 

Please remember that this event is an outdoor event and therefore you should dress appropriately.  The rink operates in most weather conditions, and no refunds shall be given due to inclement weather.

What Should You Wear?

Cardiff Winter Wonderland is an outdoor event.  Please ensure that you dress appropriately for the weather conditions. For guests Ice Skating, it is highly recommended that all skaters wear suitable along thick socks (ski socks), not trainer socks, along with gloves and scarves.  The ice rink is housed in a marquee, and the ambient air temperature is colder than that outside. 

Can You Use Your Own Skates?

Yes, you can bring and use your own ice skates.  Although there is no discount for guests bringing their own skates as all of the skates are provided free of charge.

How Much Are The Fun Fair Rides?

No Money is taken on the rides.  All riders need to purchase tokens from the token booth located in the fun fair.  Each ride requires a different number of tokens per rider.

I Can’t Make My Session, What Can I Do?

All ticket sales are final, and it is with regret but they cannot refund missed sessions. You are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes before their planned session time.

Are there Cloakroom Facilities?

There is a Cloakroom facility at the Cardiff Winter Wonderland, this can be found in the Skate Exchange marquee. Here you may store your belongings for the duration of your skate session.  There is a £2.00 charge per item for all items left in the Cloakroom.  Management cannot accept responsibility for the loss or damage from any cause whatsoever to property or articles left in the cloakroom.

Do They Have Penguins?

Yes, however they only have a limited supply of Penguins available to rent and height restrictions do apply.  Penguins can be rented to users who are under 1.2M tall.  The Penguins, are designed by the manufacturer for persons under 1.2M tall.  Penguins are available to be booked in advance, this is recommended, as availability cannot be guaranteed on the day.  They do not have an endless supply of Penguins, so they are rented on a first come, first serve basis only.  The Penguins are designed as a fun item only, and are not offered as an aid to skating. They are hired out at management’s discretion at £5.00 per Penguin, per session.  There are no refunds on any Penguin rentals.

How big is the Ice Rink?

Cardiff Winter Wonderlands’ Ice rink is 20M wide x 40M long, creating an 800 square meter ice pad.

When Does The Ice Rink Open?

Cardiff Winter Wonderland Ice Rink is open Daily from 15th of November 2018 through to 06th of January 2019.

What Is The Minimum Skating Age?

The minimum age for ice skating is 3 years old.  Please note that all children must be accompanied on the ice rink by a responsible adult always.  Children under 3 years old are not permitted to skate.

How Long Is The Skate Session?

Each session lasts for 1 hour.  This 1 Hour period, also includes the time it takes to put your skates on.  Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your session time.

Is Wet Ice Dangerous?

No, climatic conditions cause wet ice.  Calm cold days means the surface will remain dry.  Wind across the surface of the ice causes friction, which warms the ice surface, resulting in a wet surface.  Management has provided a roof over the ice to prevent closure by rain.  If the ice surface is wet, this does not make it unsafe to skate on, although you may get wet if you fall over.  Please remember that ice, by its very nature, is a slippery surface, and that slips and falls do happen.

Can Wheelchairs Go On The Ice?

Yes, they welcome wheelchair users to take to the ice.  All wheelchairs must be accompanied by a companion.  The companion can wear either skates or ice grips, but they recommend ice grips for additional safety.  Wheelchair users’ admission is the normal ticket rate whilst the companion goes for free.  The ice rink also runs dedicated sessions for wheelchair users, the visually impaired and, autistic skaters.

Do You Offer Skating Lessons?

At Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland, they are unable to provide skating lessons, however they can point you in the right direction for skating lessons.

Where Is Cardiff Winter Wonderland?

Cardiff Winter Wonderland is situated at City Hall Lawns, in front of City Hall on Gorsedd Gardens Road, Cardiff.  The Postcode for the event site is CF10 3ND. 

Where Can I Park My Car?

There is plenty of places to park near by including both on street parking, and city centre car parks all within walking distance to the Winter Wonderland. 

On Street parking is pay and display, whilst each car park carries different tariffs.  All car parking is within just a few minutes’ walk from the Winter Wonderland.

What Are The Ticket Prices?

A ticket must be purchased for each skater.  Spectators can spectate for free.  All skaters must be in possession of a valid ticket to gain access to the ice.  Ticket prices vary.

Are There Any Ticket Concessions?

They offer concessionary tickets for students only. 

Can I Take Photos On The Ice?

No, the use of cameras and mobile phones by skaters is not permitted on the ice whatsoever.  This is for your own safety, and the safety of all skaters.  Management have provided an external photography service to take photos on the ice for you, and sell prints and other novelty items.

Can I Use My Mobile Phone On The Ice?

No, the use of mobile phones by skaters is not permitted on the ice whatsoever.  This is for your own safety, and the safety of all skaters, and of course for the safety of your expensive electronic devices.
